Unit details: This is the lone medsurg unit in a community hospital. It take patients from OR/ED/downgrades from ICU/PCU. Average 8-12 admits to the unit over a 24 hour period. Unit goal is to be at 5:1 patient ratio with charge out of staffing. However, flexing to 6:1 does occur.

Patient Diagnoses : Wide variety of patient diagnoses. Diaylsis patients are run by a dialysis nurse in room. There are post heart cath patients that come to the unit as downgrades from ICU/PCU. OR admits are mainly total joint replacements, urology and some general surgery.
