Beds: 60 total private rooms with capability to expand to 65 patients with 5 twin rooms, 40 designated NICU rooms 20
Intermediate.
- Nurse: Patient Ratios: NICU- 1:1-3; NIC 1:3-4.
- Required Certifications: BLS and NRP.
- Common diagnoses/Types of patients: 22 week and up, abdominal defects, pre-cardiac repair, Persistent pulmonary hypertension
of the newborn (PPHN), congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), other genetic defect.
- Experience or 'Must have' skills: Preferred: Level 3/4 ICU experience preferred, micro preemie care preferred,
- Are RNs required to titrate drips: Yes, per orders.
- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Fentanyl, Morphine, Precedex.
- Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift Does the charge nurse take an assignment: Charge RN in NICU
and NIC, only take patient assignments if staffing gaps, along with a free transport RN 24/7. House supervisor 24/7.
- Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit Ratios Duties: PCTs are used, no specific ratio.
- Neonatologist in house 24/7: Neonatologist in house 24/7, 2-3 APNs 24/7, Resident/Fellow coverage also.
- RT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot:
Conventional Vents, Oscillator Ventilator, JET ventilator, CPAP, Nasal IMV, Heated High Flow, Tracheostomy.
- Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit Are RNs required to read their own strips What brand are the tele monitors: All
patients are monitored but we do not do Tele. Phillips monitors.
- Shifts & Scheduling: 12 hour shifts, self-scheduling, we do allow block scheduling, Shifts 0700-1930, 1900-1930.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend for dayshift (Sat/Sun). Nightshift is flexible if weekends are required and will be
dependent on the needs of the facility at the time of the contract. Night weekends are Friday and Saturday night.
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, assist with coverage as needed.
- Is there Call or a Standby requirement: No current call requirement.
- Floating Requirements: Travelers are first to float. Can float to PICU, PIC, Peds, Nursery, sitter, BHM, help in adult world.
- Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided: No specific scrub color or requirement, no fake nails, nail polish or jewelry/watches.
- Unit/Department specific orientation: 1-2 days of unit specific orientation (1 in NIC and 1 in NICU).
